Ugh, I know you guys must also have this problem. It's so annoying! I can dislocate almost every joint in my body which my doctor confirmed. I raise my arms; My shoulder falls out. I do a kick; my hip falls out. You get the idea.
I don't mind this most of the time because it doesn't hurt and I can just put it back in but I also do ballet. This makes regular ballet and ballet en pointe difficult. Why? How can I dance in my pointe shoes when my ankles dislocate? Or how do I make good arms positions when my shoulders or elbows pop out? It's extremely aggravating! I've always wanted to become a ballerina but because of this disease it won't be possible.
Plus people look at you weird when you're walking and all the sudden you fall because you're hip dislocated.
"Oh, sorry about that, just let me put my hip back in."
*CRACK*
"Ok, good to go"
No, that just looks weird!
:sad Does anyone have to deal with this either?

(((hugs))) You are not alone! I do not dislocate a lot, but I do at times. I know there are quite a few around here who dislocate a lot...hopefully they'll be around!

Mhmm...story of my life...
Mom: What the hell are you doing????
Me: Puttin' in my Hip Dance
Mom: Oh...
Or I just randomly collapse at Blockbuster...another day I took my thumb out holding a book and my sister (who also has EDS) goes "Eeeew I'm not putting that back!!!" She almost fell on her dog one day...

Ugh, every bone in my body does this as well.
That's why I had to quit playing basketball because when I'd run like that and shoot and stuff my joints would come out of place causing me to fall or something. So I know EXACTLY what you're going through.

The most commonly dislocated joint is the shoulder.
Dislocations are uncommon in younger children because their growth plates (area of bone growth located in the ends of long bones) are weaker than the muscles or tendons; instead, children are more prone to a fracture than a dislocation.

Yeah Doctor Ken, True.. BUT people with EDS there are really NO common dislocating joints. They all have the same average and do whatever they want on the most part.

I dislocate, but mainly get sublaxtions. But i tend to dislocate in the oddest moments, like when I'm at a party, which gets very awkward, because everyone rushes over to see if your ok.
Bit awkward

I've found I dislocate constantly, it's never painless though. I rolled over in my sleep and dislocated my hip. I don't have any joints that dislocate more than the others but my hips and knees bother me the most.

Has anyone had any luck with braces? I've always been disappointed by them. The unstableness would just travel along to an unbraced joint. I would brace my ankles and then need to brace my knees, which would make my hips unstable and I would have to brace them as well. I found it to be not worth the trouble:(

dislocations happen every once in a while, but subluxations happen CONSTANTLY.
mainly in my knees... but also in my fingers/wrists, hips and ankles.
I have knee braces from past surgeries that i use occasionally... they help the dislocations a little bit but they mainly seem to ease the day to day aching in my knees especially while im walking. it makes me walk more normally instead of my weird turned in hip/knee limp walk which is much less painful in the long-run

I find that braces are not for me, but have helped my other friends.
It's almost hard to judge unless you have tried them to make sure they work for you or not.

I wear braces on my knees, ankles and wrists and need splints for my fingers. They are my godsend as I'm not allowed surgery and PT does not work for me at all.

Glad braces work for you :)
Mine seem to put more pressure on the ones that don't have any.

I feel more balanced with them...now my only swaying parts are my hips and back :D *swagger walk*

I'm guessing your balance isn't as good as others, like mine. I'm also seriously clumsy :L I tend to walk into things a lot

my pt told me that there are three things that contribute to balance: vision, joints, and the inner ear.
Well I have a severe vision impairment, EDS, and Dysaut. My chances are shot LOL

I get alot of infections in my inner ear as well, and then usually get Vertigo from it...
YUCK!

Brittany, if these ear infections make your ears ring constantly, combined with the vertigo, I would look into Meneire's disease. My older sister has it and there are a lot of environmental triggers that can cause it. For Jess, it's caffeine, high fructose corn syrup, and sodium. And she has a wheat allergy. So, pretty much she can't eat anything she likes. Meneire's gave her a ton of trouble a while back, before she was diagnosed with it, and now that she's eliminated the triggers, she's rarely ever bothered by it.

I seem to dislocate my wrist everyday- really painful because it traps nerves and makes my hand go numb and really cold and it also shakes really badly...

Ouch. Have you been to an orthopedic doctor for that, Alice?
