Well since the Miralax is no longer doing it's job (well) my gastro had another trick up her sleeve...

Amitiza is used for chronic idiopathic constipation...most people take it twice a day with a meal.

It's supposed to get the smooth muscle of the GI tract to contract to make stuff move on out lol...she said it works in about 2/3 of people who take it...pretty good odds.

However...nausea is the major drawback...she said it usually will go away in...two weeks!!!!!

Has anyone here ever taken it?

I haven't started it yet. I told Mom the nausea will probably be like the kind I had in the summer when my POTS was really bad.

I'm starting it tomorrow...my gastro said I'll be pretty out of it this weekend and wants me to stay home and be near my bathroom and my bed.

She's also helping me find a dietitian as I don't gain weight :(

Well it didn't work for two days loooool but I think it may be now but I want to ask my doc to give me another week to let me figure out if i really like it or not.

That's good. I hope he gives you the extra week. Sometimes meds take longer to work in certain people and you could be one of them!

I've never taken it, but I hope that it works for you. Being constipated is no fun. I know that I ALWAYS am. I take milk of magnesia every day and I'm STILL constipated. I took Miralax, and it NEVER worked for me. :rolleyes:

Well it's funny because sometimes it does and doesn't...and sometimes too much...

it makes my POTS HORRIBLE for an hour or so...and if i haven't taken it as much as i'm supposed to i get a killer headache...

uuuuuugh nausea sucks....
